We build our stainless steel heater housings to take a beating. They’re designed for those nasty industrial environments where everything is trying to break. But here’s the thing: when you’ve got high-wattage heating elements wrapped in metal, a ground fault is always a possibility. That’s why we don’t gamble. Every single unit gets a full voltage withstand and insulation resistance test before it even thinks about leaving our shop.
When things go wrong
A heater housing is more than just a metal box. It’s a mix of insulators, seals, and wiring all working together to keep the electricity where it belongs—inside the element—and far away from the chassis. But the real world is messy. Constant vibration or the stress of heating up and cooling down can cause an insulator to crack. If that heating element touches the stainless steel shell, the entire frame of your machine becomes live.That’s not just a broken part. It’s a death trap for your team.
How we handle it
We aren’t into “batch sampling.” Testing a few units out of a hundred isn’t good enough for us. Instead, every unit goes through a “high-pot” test. We crank the voltage way past the normal operating specs to see if the insulation holds up or breaks down. We also check the insulation resistance to make sure any leakage current is practically non-existent. If a unit fails by even a tiny bit? It’s gone. We scrap it or rework it from scratch. No shortcuts.
The honest truth about maintenance
Now, these tests give you peace of mind that your gear won’t short out the moment you plug it in. But let’s be real: a factory test is just a snapshot of one moment in time. If you’re dropping these housings into a place with caustic chemicals or heavy mechanical shocks, you’ve got to keep an eye on them. Even the toughest build can wear down if the environment is eating away at the seals. We give you a rock-solid safety baseline. From there, it’s up to you to keep up with your maintenance and check those insulation levels every now and then.
