
Heating Your Class 100 Cleanroom Without the Mess
When you’re working in a Class 100 cleanroom, the last thing you need is your heating element acting like a confetti cannon. Most standard heaters have a nasty habit of outgassing or flaking. If a few microscopic particles drift onto a wafer or an optical coating, your whole batch is toast. We’ve seen it happen too many times. That’s why we switched to high-purity synthetic quartz for our IR lamps. The secret is in the quartz. Cheap glass or low-grade quartz just can’t handle the heat. They break down under thermal stress and start shedding debris. Our high-purity quartz envelopes are different. They take rapid temperature swings without cracking or flaking. The result? The only thing coming off that lamp is infrared radiation. No dust, no flakes, no headaches. Let’s talk numbers (and air) We spend a lot of time balancing wattage and voltage to make sure you hit your heat flux targets exactly. If you need a fast ramp-up, our high-wattage tubes are the way to go. But here is the catch: you’ve got to keep your bench housing vented. If the airflow is blocked, the heat just soaks back into the lamp ends. That’s a shortcut to killing your filaments. We also use specific connectors—think R7s or Sk15—to keep the electrical contact tight. Why? Because loose connections cause arcs. Arcs leave carbon deposits. And in a cleanroom, carbon is basically poison. A quick warning on installation These lamps are designed to be simple drop-in replacements. We kept the footprint small so they fit into tight spaces without a fight. But you have to be careful. High-purity quartz is a bit finicky. It hates skin oils. If you touch the tube with your bare hands during installation, those oils bake into the glass. This creates “hot spots” that can actually make the tube snap. Do yourself a favor:**use lint-free gloves.**It takes two seconds, and it keeps your lamps from burning out way too early.
